Annie is the smash hit west end musical which back on tour! Coming to the Bristol Hippodrome from 20th – 25th November 2023.
Annie is a beloved Broadway musical that premiered in 1977. With music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin, and a book by Thomas Meehan. The show is based on the classic comic strip “Little Orphan Annie” and tells the story of a young orphan girl named Annie who is taken in by a wealthy businessman during the Great Depression.
The musical features memorable songs, including “Tomorrow,” “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” and “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” It also includes energetic dance numbers and colorful sets and costumes that capture the spirit of 1930s New York City.
Annie has been adapted for film and television several times. Including a 1982 film version directed by John Huston and a 1999 made-for-TV movie starring Kathy Bates and Victor Garber.
The show has been praised for its uplifting message and its ability to capture the hope and optimism of the Great Depression. It is also known for its strong lead roles. Particularly the character of Miss Hannigan, the drunken and cruel orphanage matron who serves as the show’s antagonist.
