42nd Street

42nd Street is the brand-spanking new production of the original showbiz musical. Coming to the Bristol Hippodrome from 31st July – 5th August 2023.

42nd Street is a classic American musical that premiered on Broadway in 1980. The show features music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble. It tells the story of Peggy Sawyer, a young chorus girl from Allentown, Pennsylvania. Who dreams of becoming a Broadway star. The show is set during the Great Depression and showcases the hard work and determination of the chorus dancers in the face of financial hardship.

The musical is known for its memorable songs, including “We’re in the Money,” and “Shuffle Off to Buffalo,”. As well as the titular “42nd Street.” It also features dazzling tap dance numbers and elaborate costumes and sets that capture the glamour and energy of Broadway in the 1930s.

The show has been revived multiple times on Broadway, most recently in 2017. It has also been adapted for film and television, including a 1984 film adaptation directed by Bramble.
